Claims & Funeral Processes.

Below we outline the process you will need to follow when a loved one passes away. We know it's a difficult time, but we will be with you every step of the way.

Step 1 - Report death

The first step in the process is for you to let us know that your loved one has passed on. If you have the contact number of the branch they are a member of / you are a member of, you can call them directly or you can contact us on:

  • Emergency Contact: (082) 255 5209
  • Head Office: (012) 706 0034

Step 2 - Collection of the deceased

After we have received your call and gotten your address, we will come to collect the body of your loved one and safely transport them to the parlour to be prepared for the burial.

Step 3 - Documentation required from family

  • BI1663 (Notice of death)
  • Death Certificate (certified)
  • ID Copy of Deceased (certified)
  • ID Copy of Main Member (certified)
  • A copy of the medical application or Police report is required for accidental death or suicide.
  • Bank statement or confirmation of account - the one that we will need to pay to you, for example, condolences payment - depending on the funeral plan chosen
  • Burial Order
  • Confirmation letter (from undertaker)
  • The documents can be submitted in person to the funeral director or emailed to: claims@royalfuneralssa.co.za

Step 4 - Consultation with the parlour for the burial

This is where you talk to one of our consultants to finalise the burial package suitable for you, decide on products you will need and plan the funeral. For example, decide on a coffin/casket, flowers, etc.

Step 5 - Body preparation and viewing

Our professional team will prepare the body of your loved one and have them ready for final viewing at the parlour on the date agreed with you. Then a limited number of family members can come to say goodbye.

Step 6 - Transportation of the deceased to home or church

Depending on what you choose when talking to our consultant, the body will be transported to the home/church of the deceased a day before the funeral or on the morning of the funeral.

Step 7 - Burial

On the day of the funeral, our team will come to transport your loved one to the burial site for their final rest. We will also set up a tent, chairs and other amenities at the gravesite (based on what you selected when speaking to our consultant), to help provide a comfortable final goodbye to your loved one.
